At OUTWORDS, we’re always thinking about how to make our stories more accessible and useful. It’s in that spirit that we’ve started revamping our collections: curated sets of interviews around a shared theme or historical event(s). We set out to contextualize these interviews within the larger landscape in which they live, through scholarly essays, video trailers, and more.

It is with great pride that we introduce the first of these refreshed offerings: our newly reimagined HIV/AIDS in the South collection.

As HIV/AIDS education and resources come under attack in this country, this collection spotlights the unique challenges facing people with HIV and AIDS in the southern United States, as well as the progress that has been made. With stories that aren’t often featured in mainstream narratives of health equity, HIV/AIDS in the South centers the determined individuals who have worked relentlessly to ensure that access to HIV care in the South becomes and remains possible.
