OutfestNEXT Screenings!
One of our faves, OutfestNEXT returns July 23-26 at the LA LGBT Center, to showcase over twenty film programs showcasing a vibrant spectrum of narrative and documentary features and shorts which celebrate queer and trans storytelling across generations.
We wanted to take a moment to highlight 2 of the films on the big screen.
| TIME WARP, screening on July 24 at 9:00pm, follows Kenny Starling and an eclectic ensemble of small-town personalities in Rock Springs, Wyoming. They are about to open the first ever drag and queer theater company with a shadow cast performance of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, facing a heated political climate and vocal protestors determined to suppress them. But Kenny, and team, will fight to bring a small pocket of queer joy to life. |
Barbara Forever, screening on July 26 at 12:00pm, is a Teddy Award Berlinale winner and feature length follow-up to her 2022 Outfest Los Angeles Grand Jury Prize for Short Documentary Love, Barbara, Director Brydie O’Connor explores the life and work of pioneering lesbian filmmaker Barbara Hammer.From her early revolutionary film works (like Dyketactics), which are among the first cinematic depictions of lesbian sex directed by a woman, Hammer was a monumental force in queer film.
